Teachers “Love” the Chain of Custody Awareness Mechanism
Michele Davis, principal of the Warren Prescott K-8 School in the Boston Public School District, which is piloting the CirclePoint BPP, relayed today that teachers “love” Chain of Custody Awareness, one of the CirclePoint mechanisms. Chain of Custody Awareness is a notification process that makes all adults who are with a target and an aggressor from the start of the day to the end of the day aware of a bullying problem so they can ensure that the aggression does not continue. During the teacher training sessions, many classroom teachers had highlighted the problem of bullying continuing when the students involved were engaged in a different subject with a specialist or monitored by non-teaching staff, such as during recess and lunch. In the Warren Prescott implementation, teachers and administrators document bullying problems in a secure online site and all adults in the school review the information daily. Playground and cafeteria monitors are provided with a special log book, which is kept in the main office, detailing bullying issues. Both the target and the aggressor are informed that adults are aware of the problem and will be monitoring. This process is likely a significant contributor to the fact that all bullying problems since April 2015 have been successfully resolved with a single conversation between administration and the aggressor.
